Modern Boot Protocol - Kernel called directly in 64-bit, no arguments.
Detection
The Bootloader detects a Limine kernel by scanning Executable and Linkable Format (ELF) segments for the BASE_REVISION magic [0xf9562b2d5c95a6c8, 0x6a7b384944536bdc]
Requests
See Limine Request.
Entry point
The bootloader jumps to the ELF entry point in 64-bit via a jmp - no arguments passed. The kernel reads info through its own statics.
Advantages over Multiboot2
- No 32-bit boot stub needed in the kernel
- Native Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and Basic Input Output System (BIOS) support
- Higher-half kernel out of the box
